About the game

In Cottage Garden, players compete in the art of gardening, tending two flower beds at once by drafting polyomino tiles from a shared market and fitting them into their gardens. Completing a bed scores points for any visible plant pots and bells left uncovered, tracked along two separate scoring tracks that award useful bonus tokens when crossed. Finished gardens are immediately replaced with fresh ones, keeping the puzzle going until the gardener token completes five laps around the market. Designed by Uwe Rosenberg, it's the first entry in his acclaimed puzzle trilogy of polyomino placement games.

Hobbli's Notes

Cottage Garden is a beautifully tactile puzzle game: fitting oddly shaped flower bed pieces into your boards never stops being satisfying. The dual scoring tracks give just enough strategic tension without overwhelming casual players. It's an easy, relaxing recommend for fans of spatial puzzles and a great entry point into Rosenberg's puzzle trilogy.

What we like

  • Satisfying polyomino puzzle with a relaxing gardening theme.
  • Dual scoring tracks add meaningful strategic tension.
  • Solo mode works well for a quieter, puzzle-focused session.
  • Easy to teach to family and casual groups.

Keep in mind

  • Limited direct player interaction beyond the shared market.
  • Tile draft luck can affect available shapes.
  • May feel repetitive to players who dislike polyomino puzzles.
