About the game
Village Attacks flips the classic dungeon crawl on its head, you and your fellow players control the monsters, defending a besieged castle from waves of villagers, hunters, and heroes. With variable player powers drawn from folklore creatures worldwide, a modular board, and dice-driven combat, every siege plays out differently. It supports solo play as well as full cooperative games up to five players. At up to three hours, it's a substantial, immersive tabletop experience for horror and monster fans.
Hobbli's Notes
The role-reversal hook, playing monsters defending their lair instead of adventurers storming it, is genuinely fun and underused in the genre. Variable player powers give each session a different feel, and the modular board keeps replays fresh. It's a long game though, and the high commitment grade reflects real investment of both time and rules overhead, so it suits groups already sold on cooperative dungeon-defense games.
What we like
- Unique role-reversal premise defending as the monsters.
- Variable player powers add replayability and asymmetry.
- Modular board keeps each siege different.
- Solo mode extends value beyond group play.
Keep in mind
- Long three-hour playtime is a big commitment.
- High commitment grade suggests notable rules overhead to learn.
- Cooperative games can suffer from a dominant 'quarterback' player.
Who it's for
Best for horror and fantasy fans ages 12+ looking for a lengthy cooperative experience, playable solo or with up to five players.
