About the game

Kingsburg tasks players with developing a border province of a fantasy kingdom while defending it against seasonal monster invasions. By placing influence dice on the King's advisors, players collect resources to build structures and train soldiers, with the lowest roller choosing first to balance luck. Every fourth turn brings an invasion that all players must individually withstand. Over five years and twenty turns, the most influential and best-defended governor wins.

Hobbli's Notes

Kingsburg's dice-placement system is a clever, underrated take on worker placement - going last isn't just a consolation, it's a genuine strategic edge. The looming seasonal invasions add a satisfying rhythm of building and bracing. A solid mid-weight euro for fans of fantasy theming and dice-driven strategy.

What we like

  • Clever dice-placement mechanic balances luck with strategic choice.
  • Recurring invasion events create satisfying rhythm and tension.
  • Multiple viable paths to victory through building or military.
  • Accessible rules for a moderately strategic euro game.

Keep in mind

  • Long playtime of around two hours.
  • Dice-based influence can still frustrate players facing bad rolls.
  • Not directly cooperative, so weaker players can fall behind in defense.

Who it's for

Best for 3-5 players aged 10+ who enjoy dice-driven worker placement games with light fantasy theming.
