About the game
Catacombs is a cooperative dexterity game where heroes flick wooden discs to battle monsters marshaled by the Overseer, exploring the fantasy dungeons beneath the town of Stormtryne. As heroes clear rooms, they can buy items and recruit allies before finally confronting the powerful Catacomb Lord. This third edition features new artwork, streamlined iconography, and updated components compared to earlier editions. It's a unique blend of tabletop RPG adventure and tabletop dexterity combat.
Hobbli's Notes
Catacombs is a joyously physical game - flicking your hero disc to smash a monster off the board never stops being satisfying. The cooperative dungeon-crawl structure gives it real replay value across different scenarios. A fantastic choice for groups who want their fantasy adventure with a healthy dose of tactile skill.
What we like
- Unique flicking-based dexterity combat sets it apart from typical dungeon crawlers.
- Cooperative team play against one Overseer creates fun asymmetric tension.
- Varied heroes with distinct abilities add strategic variety.
- Rich fantasy theme with an evocative dungeon-crawl narrative.
Keep in mind
- Dexterity skill requirements may frustrate less physically precise players.
- Long 90-minute sessions with potential for high downtime.
- Player elimination elements can sideline heroes who are defeated early.
Who it's for
Great for 2-5 players aged 14+ who enjoy cooperative fantasy dungeon crawls combined with physical dexterity skill.
