About the game
Mega Civilization is a massive empire-building game supporting 5 to 18 players, guiding a historic civilization from the Stone Age through the Late Iron Age. Players expand their population, found cities, trade valuable commodities, and develop civilization advances across categories like Arts, Crafts, Science, Civics, and Religion. Trading is the social heart of the game, as players negotiate to optimize their hand of commodities while trying to avoid or offload disastrous calamity cards. Despite its enormous scope and a playtime that can stretch to 720 minutes, its core mechanics remain straightforward, and a Short Game scenario lets groups experience it in less time. It's designed to be the largest board game playable in a single day in one room.
Hobbli's Notes
Mega Civilization is a genuine spectacle, one of the few games built explicitly to handle a full room of players around one enormous map. We love that despite its epic scale, the core loop of expanding, trading, and developing advances stays approachable and easy to explain. The trading phase in particular creates a wonderfully chaotic, highly social centerpiece to the whole day. It's an unforgettable event game for a large group ready to commit serious time and table space.
What we like
- Massive scale supporting up to eighteen players in a single game.
- Rich civilization development spanning trading, city-building, and technology advances.
- Core mechanics stay straightforward despite the game's grand scope.
- Highly social trading phase drives constant player interaction.
Keep in mind
- An enormous time commitment, often spanning a full day of play.
