About the game

Watson & Holmes is a deduction game set in the world of Arthur Conan Doyle, where 2-7 players take on the role of Dr. Watson working alongside Sherlock Holmes to solve unpublished cases. Players race to visit locations for clues, using carriage tokens to bid for the fastest travel when multiple detectives want the same destination. Each clue read in secret brings players closer to solving the case, and whoever first reaches 221B Baker Street with the correct answers wins. Multiple standalone cases keep the Victorian mysteries coming.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli appreciates how Watson & Holmes turns deduction into a competitive race, with the carriage-token bidding for locations adding a clever layer of tension on top of clue-gathering. It supports a notably wide range of player counts for a deduction game. Player elimination for those who guess wrong can be a rough note for casual tables, so it's best suited to groups who enjoy a bit of competitive edge in their mysteries.

What we like

  • Immerses players in authentic Sherlock Holmes / Victorian mystery cases.
  • Carriage-token bidding for clue locations adds tense competitive deduction.
  • Supports a wide player range from 2 to 7.
  • Multiple standalone cases extend replayability.

Keep in mind

  • Player elimination can leave unsuccessful detectives sitting out early.
  • Deduction-heavy gameplay may not suit lighter or casual groups.
  • Downtime can build with larger player counts.
