About the game
Chronicles of Crime is a cooperative crime investigation game for one to four players that blends a companion app, physical board components, and optional VR elements. Using Scan&Play QR technology, the same locations, characters, and items can trigger entirely different clues depending on which downloadable scenario you're playing. Players race to solve each case in the shortest time possible, with many scenarios connecting into a much larger overarching story. Sessions run about ninety minutes, and new cases can keep arriving through app updates without any new physical components.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli sees this as a genre-defining hybrid of tabletop and app-driven storytelling, with the expandability of downloadable scenarios giving it real staying power. It's an excellent pick for groups who want immersive deduction without buying new physical content for every case.
What we like
- Innovative app integration with QR scanning.
- Expandable through downloadable scenarios without new components.
- Immersive storytelling with optional VR elements.
- Moderate ninety-minute session length.
Keep in mind
- Requires a phone or tablet with the companion app to play.
- One-time reveal of clues limits replay of specific scenarios.
- Individual cases can feel short relative to setup.
Who it's for
Mystery and deduction fans aged 12+ who enjoy app-assisted cooperative storytelling, in groups of one to four.
