About the game

Sorcerer is a strategy card game set in a grim, gaslamp-lit fantasy world where two to four players control ancient beings summoning minions, casting spells, and wielding enchanted items to conquer three battlefields. Energy for actions is determined by a dice roll each round, keeping resources fresh while staying balanced across all players. During the Battle Phase, custom dice resolve combat with misses, hits, and critical hits, while Omen tokens let players influence the outcome through clever re-rolls. The game blends deck-building, drafting, and push-your-luck dice combat into a dueling card game experience.

Hobbli's Notes

Sorcerer layers several familiar mechanisms, deck-building, drafting, dice combat, into a dark fantasy dueling package. The Omen re-roll system is a nice touch that gives players some control over an otherwise dice-heavy combat phase, though the overall experience leans toward players who already enjoy battle card games.

What we like

  • Deep dueling card game with dice-influenced combat.
  • Energy system keeps rounds fair and balanced.
  • Deck-building customization adds strategic depth.
  • Distinctive dark fantasy world and presentation.

Keep in mind

  • Niche gaslamp-fantasy theme may not appeal broadly.
  • Dice-based combat introduces meaningful luck.
  • Longer 90-minute playtime for a card-based duel.
  • Learning curve for new players unfamiliar with the system.

Who it's for

Best for fantasy-loving strategy gamers aged 14 and up who enjoy dueling card games in pairs or small groups of up to four.
