About the game
Rum & Bones brings MOBA-style online battle arena gameplay to the tabletop, as 2-6 players take command of legendary pirate heroes whose crews clash over Davy Jones' treasure. Each player controls up to five heroes with unique powers, moving across the board to destroy key features on opponents' ships, while AI-controlled deckhands and bosuns fight alongside them. Collecting Davy Jones' mythical pieces of eight fuels devastating hero abilities and attacks. Built around action points, area majority, and dice-based combat, matches run about 60 minutes of pirate-themed skirmish warfare.
Hobbli's Notes
A bold attempt to translate MOBA design sensibilities into a miniatures skirmish game, and the AI-controlled crew mechanic genuinely delivers that lane-pushing feel. It's a big commitment in miniatures and setup, so it suits groups already invested in tactical combat games.
What we like
- Fresh MOBA-inspired approach to miniature skirmish combat.
- AI-controlled crew adds tactical depth beyond just hero units.
- Distinctive pirate heroes each bring unique abilities.
- Scales from 2 up to 6 players.
Keep in mind
- Heavy reliance on miniatures increases cost and setup time.
- Dice-based combat can produce swingy results.
- Niche MOBA-inspired theme may not appeal to all tabletop gamers.
Who it's for
Best for miniature skirmish fans aged 12 and up who enjoy MOBA-inspired tactical combat in groups of 2-6.
