About the game
Liberty or Death is Volume V in GMT's COIN series, recreating the American Revolution as an asymmetric struggle between British, Patriot, Indian, and French factions. Each faction has its own capabilities and win conditions, from Tory-supported British control to French naval intervention and Patriot rabble-rousing. The card-driven system layers political, cultural, and military actions, with brilliant strokes, irregular troops, and variable French entry adding period-specific twists. Robust solitaire and multi-player support make it playable from 1 to 4 players.
Hobbli's Notes
A high point of the COIN series for players who love deep asymmetric wargames: the faction interplay is genuinely rich, but this is a serious commitment in both learning curve and table time, squarely aimed at dedicated wargamers and history enthusiasts.
What we like
- Deeply asymmetric faction design with distinct win conditions.
- Rich historical theme grounded in real Revolutionary War events.
- Strong solitaire system for playing any faction short.
- High replayability across short, medium, and long scenarios.
Keep in mind
- Very long playtime, especially with a full 4-player table.
- Steep learning curve for the card-driven COIN system.
- High complexity may deter casual or new wargamers.
