About the game

Ascension: Realms Unraveled is a deckbuilding game where players battle for cards from a shared central pool, fighting monsters for victory points and useful abilities like deck-thinning or banishing rival-friendly cards. Adding multi-faction heroes and the new Multi-Unite mechanism, it rewards players who commit multiple heroes from the same faction for big payoffs, alongside the Transform mechanism that lets cards upgrade into more powerful versions. It works as a standalone game for 1-4 players, complete with solo rules, or as an expansion that boosts any other Ascension game up to six players. The game ends once all victory points are claimed or the shared deck runs dry.

Hobbli's Notes

Realms Unraveled is a strong standalone entry into the Ascension series, and the multi-faction hero concept adds genuine new decision-making to the formula. We like that it works both alone and as an expansion for other Ascension games. A solid pick for deckbuilding fans looking for their next fix.

What we like

  • Multi-faction heroes and the Multi-Unite mechanism add fresh strategic layers to the Ascension formula.
  • Works as both a standalone game and an expansion for other Ascension titles.
  • Includes solo rules for single-player deckbuilding fans.
  • Fast 30-minute playtime suits quick sessions.

Keep in mind

  • Requires familiarity with deckbuilding conventions, which may confuse total newcomers.
  • Best played with the broader Ascension line for full variety.
  • Random card pool draws can create swingy availability of certain factions.

Who it's for

Great for deckbuilding fans already invested in the Ascension series, as well as newcomers wanting a standalone entry with solo support; plays best with 2 players.
