About the game
Saint Petersburg (Second Edition) is a card-drafting economic game for two to five players set during the founding of the great Russian city. Players buy worker, building, and noble cards from a shared display, earning rubles and victory points each time a phase resolves. Set collection of nobles and careful investment timing separate the strongest city-builders from the rest. This edition adds an optional Market module along with bonus modules from prior expansions.
Hobbli's Notes
Saint Petersburg is a modern classic of the drafting genre, prized for how tightly its income and scoring phases interlock. Every purchase is a balancing act between immediate cash flow and long-term point generation. It's an excellent gateway into deeper Euro design without an intimidating rulebook.
What we like
- Tight drafting and economic loop rewards careful planning.
- Modular expansions add variety across replays.
- Approachable rules make it a good entry into Euro gaming.
- Supports up to five players with the Market module.
Keep in mind
- Some analysis paralysis is possible when weighing card options.
- Card availability can feel restrictive if the display runs dry of what you need.
- Scoring only at phase-ends can make early strategy feel abstract to new players.
Who it's for
Great for Euro-game fans ages 10+ in groups of 2-5 who enjoy card drafting and tight economic decision-making.
