About the game
Pandemic: The Cure reimagines the Pandemic formula as a fast dice-based game, setting up in under a minute and playing in about 30 minutes. Players take on specialized roles, each with unique dice and abilities, and roll to determine flying, sailing, treating disease, or collecting samples. Rolls can be repeated for better results, but every extra roll increases the risk of triggering an epidemic. The team wins by discovering cures to all four diseases before outbreaks spiral out of control.
Hobbli's Notes
Pandemic: The Cure captures the push-your-luck tension of an epidemic race in a much lighter, faster package than the original board game. The re-rolling mechanic is a clever way to let players gamble for a better outcome at increasing risk. It trades away some of the original's map-based strategic nuance for portability and speed, making it a great pickup for a quicker cooperative fix.
What we like
- Much faster setup and playtime than the original Pandemic.
- Portable dice-and-cup format is easy to bring along.
- Push-your-luck re-rolling adds real risk-and-reward tension.
- Role-based dice abilities preserve meaningful team specialization.
Keep in mind
- Less strategic map depth compared to the original board game.
- Dice-based outbreaks can feel swingy from game to game.
- May feel repetitive for players who already own base Pandemic.
Who it's for
Fans of cooperative games and the original Pandemic looking for a faster, more portable experience, ages 8 and up, best with 2 to 5 players.
