About the game
Eight-Minute Empire: Legends is a standalone sequel to the area-control game Eight-Minute Empire, sending two to four players across a modular fantasy map to claim territory through card-driven actions. Six cards are on display at all times, each with unique abilities and beautiful creature illustrations, letting players buy actions like movement, army production, or city founding at rising prices. Set collection from card abilities adds further scoring at game's end alongside regional and continental majorities. Despite the added depth, it still plays in well under half an hour.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors are fond of how much genuine strategy this fits into such a short playtime. The modular board and variable card offerings keep repeat plays feeling different. Its fantasy illustrations by Ryan Laukat give it real table appeal beyond the mechanics. A dependable filler for groups who want area control without the usual time commitment.
What we like
- Extremely fast playtime for an area-control game.
- Beautiful fantasy illustrations throughout the cards.
- Modular board and card offerings create high variability.
- Set collection adds a satisfying extra scoring layer.
Keep in mind
- Lighter strategic depth compared to full-length civ games.
- Limited direct combat interaction between players.
- Card offerings can swing outcomes somewhat by luck.
Who it's for
Great for casual gamers and families who enjoy fantasy-themed area control but want a much shorter playtime than typical civ games.
