About the game
In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Deck-Building Game, you play as Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn, or another hero racing to gather power and defeat Sauron's forces. Starting with a basic ten-card deck, you'll buy Allies, Artifacts, and Locations from a shared Path to build a more powerful engine each turn. Defeating escalating Archenemies like Saruman and the Balrog earns big victory points, but they also unleash attacks on every player. The hero with the most victory points when the game ends wins.
Hobbli's Notes
This is an accessible, well-themed deck-builder for Tolkien fans, translating the Fellowship's journey into satisfying Dominion-style deck construction. The shared Archenemy threat gives it a nice cooperative-tension undercurrent even though it's competitive, since a defeated Archenemy attacks everyone. It's a great entry point into deck-building for LOTR fans who haven't tried the genre before.
What we like
- Strong Lord of the Rings theming throughout the cards.
- Accessible entry point into deck-building mechanics.
- Archenemy attacks add shared tension to a competitive game.
- Seven playable heroes with unique powers add variety.
Keep in mind
- Less strategic depth than heavier deck-builders.
- Card pool can feel limited after many plays.
- Some luck in the Path lineup affects available strategies.
Who it's for
