About the game

Star Trek: Catan reimagines Klaus Teuber's classic Catan in the Star Trek universe, with players establishing outposts and starbases across planets to gather dilithium, tritanium, food, oxygen, and water. Trading and building starships to connect regions plays just like the original Settlers formula, with Development Cards providing points and special abilities. A unique twist adds Support Cards themed around iconic Star Trek characters like Kirk, Spock, and Uhura, each granting special one- or two-use abilities that help balance turn order. A Klingon ship threatens resource production and taxes hoarders whenever a 7 is rolled. It's a faithful, fan-friendly take on the Catan formula for three to four players.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team sees this as a solid pick for Star Trek fans who already love Catan's trading-and-building gameplay: the Support Cards are a clever addition that gives the game its own identity beyond a simple reskin. Anyone familiar with Settlers of Catan will pick this up instantly. It doesn't reinvent the core formula, so those looking for something mechanically different from Catan may be less excited. Still, the theme integration is well done for licensed-game standards.

What we like

  • Familiar, well-loved Catan trading-and-building gameplay.
  • Support Cards add a fresh, thematic wrinkle to the formula.
  • Strong Star Trek theming will delight franchise fans.
  • Easy to teach to anyone who already knows Catan.

Keep in mind

  • Largely a reskin, offering little mechanically new for Catan veterans.
  • Requires exactly 3-4 players, limiting flexibility.
  • Noticeable downtime and trading negotiation can slow the pace.

Who it's for

Great for Catan fans and Star Trek enthusiasts aged 10+ playing in groups of 3-4.
