About the game

Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin continues the Thunderstone deckbuilding line as heroes chase the dreaded Thunderstone Bearers into dungeons and wilderness. Players draft heroes and equipment into their decks, then send their party to battle increasingly dangerous monsters for glory and treasure. Fully compatible with prior Thunderstone releases, this entry adds new cards, an updated village and dungeon board, and refined rules. The player who defeats the most valuable monsters over the course of the game wins.

Hobbli's Notes

A solid, if now slightly dated, entry in the deckbuilding genre with a strong dungeon-crawl flavor. Its compatibility with the wider Thunderstone catalog is a big draw for collectors of the series. It offers real strategic depth but can feel fiddlier and slower than more modern, streamlined deckbuilders.

What we like

  • Deep deckbuilding combined with a dungeon-crawl theme.
  • Compatible with the broader Thunderstone product line.
  • Wide variety of heroes and monsters for replayability.
  • Solo-friendly play option.

Keep in mind

  • Turns can be fiddly with more bookkeeping than newer deckbuilders.
  • Steeper learning curve for deckbuilding newcomers.
  • Art and presentation feel dated compared to modern releases.

Who it's for

Deckbuilding and dungeon-crawl fans aged 12 and up, playing solo or in groups up to five.
