About the game
Butterfly Garden, originally released as Indigo, is a tile-laying game in which no one owns the paths being built, and everyone tries to exploit them to guide butterflies toward their own flowerbeds. Placing a path tile next to a butterfly sends it flying as far as the connected route allows, so movement happens immediately and visibly rather than requiring memory or delayed resolution. Claiming a butterfly at a flowerbed scores points based on its color, with the rare purple butterfly worth the most. It's a light, family-friendly Reiner Knizia design about pattern and route-building.
Hobbli's Notes
Butterfly Garden is a lovely example of Knizia's gift for turning a simple idea into an elegant puzzle. The immediate movement of butterflies avoids the mental bookkeeping that trips people up in similar tile-laying games, making it very approachable for families. The garden theme and components are charming without feeling childish. A reliable choice when you want something light but genuinely thoughtful.
