About the game

A wildly humorous card game for 2-6 players, Epic Spell Wars has battle wizards combining spell component cards to unleash over-the-top magical attacks on their rivals. Each turn, players craft up to three-part spell combos, roll dice to determine damage, and try to be the last wizard standing. Even defeated wizards stay in the game with special Dead Wizard cards, keeping everyone involved until the bloody, hilarious end. It is a fast, chaotic, and gleefully silly take-that card game.

Hobbli's Notes

Epic Spell Wars leans hard into its absurd, over-the-top humor, and it's all the better for it - reading out the ridiculous spell combinations is half the fun. The combination of dice rolling and hand management gives it just enough strategy to keep decisions interesting amid the chaos. Its quick 30-minute playtime and simple rules make it an easy pick for groups wanting a silly, competitive card-slinging session. The Dead Wizard mechanic is a clever way to keep eliminated players engaged.

What we like

  • Hilarious, over-the-top spell combos generate constant laughs.
  • Fast 30-minute playtime keeps energy high.
  • Clever Dead Wizard mechanic keeps eliminated players involved.
  • Simple rules make it easy to teach to new groups.

Keep in mind

  • Take-that mechanics can frustrate players who dislike direct attacks.
  • Randomness from dice rolling can outweigh strategy.
