About the game
Shadowrift is a cooperative deck-building game for 1-6 players who must defend Haven Town from a horde of monsters pouring from a dimensional rift. Players buy cards to build up their heroes with spells, skills, and attacks while managing constant interaction with fellow players over limited townsfolk and resources. Left unchecked, monsters actively attack the town, killing villagers and breaking walls, so heroes must balance offense with town defense. Victory comes from sealing the rifts or fortifying the town before it falls.
Hobbli's Notes
Shadowrift distinguishes itself among cooperative deck-builders by having monsters that actively threaten the shared town rather than sitting passively, keeping pressure constant. The tight resource competition for townsfolk and building materials forces real cooperation and negotiation between players. Its second edition improvements to monster AI and card layout are a nice refinement over the original release. It's a solid pick for fans of cooperative deck-building who want more table interaction than usual.
