About the game
Liberté covers the French Revolution from the Estates General in 1789 to Bonaparte's coup in 1799. Three factions, Radicals, Moderates, and Royalists, vie for influence by placing blocks on the board and controlling stacks with faction tokens. Elections determine who forms the next government as players score points for influence and battlefield victories. Two dramatic sudden-death conditions can end the game abruptly, keeping the outcome uncertain until the very end.
Hobbli's Notes
A brilliant, tense area-influence game from Martin Wallace that captures revolutionary chaos beautifully. The sudden-death endings are thrilling but can feel jarring, and downtime between turns can build up in a full game.
