About the game
Nightfall is a fast, furious deck-building card game set in a world overrun by vampires, werewolves, and ghouls after the sun mysteriously vanishes. Players draft cards before the game to build unique private and shared pools, then battle head-to-head using a clever chaining mechanic where each card's colors link to the next. Chains resolve in reverse order, unleashing cascading attacks and effects. Designed by David Gregg, it supports 2-5 players in about 45 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
We think Nightfall's chaining system is one of the more inventive twists on deck-building combat, rewarding players who can plan multi-card combos rather than just buying the "best" card each turn. The dark horror theme and direct combat give it more bite than typical peaceful deck-builders. The pre-game draft adds a nice layer of preparation strategy. A great pick for deck-building fans who want more head-to-head aggression.
What we like
- Inventive chaining mechanic sets it apart from other deck-builders.
- Direct head-to-head combat adds aggressive interaction.
- Pre-game draft adds strategic customization.
- Strong horror theme with varied creature factions.
Keep in mind
- Chaining combos can be swingy and hard for new players to track.
- Direct attacks may not suit players who dislike conflict.
- Requires learning multiple expansions to access full card pool variety.
Who it's for
Suited for ages 12+ gamers who enjoy deck-building games with direct combat; best with 3-5 players who like a bit of table conflict.
