About the game
Vinci has three to six players cycle through a series of ancient European civilizations, each defined by special-ability tiles, as they expand territory and rack up points. The key twist is choosing when to let your active civilization decline in order to adopt a fresh one with better prospects, all while territorial conflict constantly shifts control of the map. Play continues until a target score is reached, with final rounds determining the eventual victor. It's the acclaimed precursor to the beloved Small World.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors regard this as a genuinely clever design whose civilization-decline mechanic still feels fresh today. Deciding exactly when to retire a civilization versus squeeze out one more turn is the heart of the game's tension. Fans of Small World owe it to themselves to try this predecessor. It offers a slightly heavier, more historically flavored take on the same core idea.
