About the game

K2 puts each player in charge of a two-mountaineer team racing to summit the world's second-highest peak and make it back down alive. Using a shared deck of movement and acclimatization cards, you navigate a treacherous route while managing oxygen, weather, and the ever-present risk of your climbers succumbing to the mountain. Simultaneous action selection means everyone plans and reveals moves together, keeping tension high throughout. With a double-sided board offering easier and harder routes, K2 balances tight strategy with real thematic bite.

Hobbli's Notes

K2 is a standout in the mountaineering genre, marrying tight hand management with a genuinely tense push-your-luck feel as the weather turns against you. It plays fast for its depth and rewards careful risk assessment.

What we like

  • Strong thematic integration of weather and altitude risk.
  • Simultaneous action selection keeps all players engaged at once.
  • Scales well from solo play up to 5 players.
  • Fast 60-minute playtime for the strategic depth on offer.

Keep in mind

  • Climber deaths can feel punishing and swingy for new players.
  • Card luck affects which moves are available on a given turn.
  • Losing climbers early can feel deflating in a race-style game.

Who it's for

Great for gamers who enjoy risk-management and racing games; scales from solo play up to 5 players, ages 10 and up.
