About the game
Royal Visit is a tight two-player card game from Reiner Knizia in which you and your opponent compete to lure the King into your own Chateau. Playing cards from your hand moves characters and triggers the powers of the Wizard and Jester, subtly repositioning the King, his Court, and the Crown between the two rival Duchies. The first player to welcome the King, or hold the Crown at game's end, wins outright. It's a compact push-and-pull duel where every card played nudges the balance of favor back and forth.
Hobbli's Notes
This is classic tight, elegant Knizia design: a small box that packs real tension into a short two-player format. The tug-of-war over the King's favor stays interesting because every card matters, and games move fast enough to invite an immediate rematch. A solid choice for date nights or quick strategic duels.
What we like
- Elegant, tightly designed two-player duel.
- Quick to teach and quick to play.
- Every card played has genuine tactical weight.
- Tug-of-war tension keeps outcomes uncertain until the end.
Keep in mind
- Strictly a two-player game.
- Thin theme beyond the royal-favor premise.
- Can feel repetitive across many consecutive plays.
