About the game

Mr. Jack pits one player as Jack the Ripper, hidden among eight characters on the board, against an investigator trying to unmask him with only a single accusation allowed. Each turn, players move characters and use their special powers, positioning them in light or shadow. Witnesses then reveal whether Jack is visible or hidden, letting the investigator narrow down suspects while Jack works to escape. It's a tight thirty-minute duel of logic, misdirection, and nerve.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team rates Mr. Jack as one of the cleanest two-player deduction designs around, thanks to how tightly the character powers interact with the light-and-shadow visibility system. The one-accusation rule keeps tension high for the investigator right to the final turn. Its short playtime and elegant rules make it an easy repeat play. The tradeoff is that it's strictly a two-player experience with no way to bring in more players.

What we like

  • Clever asymmetric deduction puzzle built around light and shadow.
  • Quick thirty-minute playtime encourages immediate rematches.
  • Tight two-player logic duel with genuine tension throughout.
  • Elegant character-power system adds depth without heavy rules.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly a two-player game with no scaling options.
  • The single-accusation rule can feel harsh if you guess wrong.
  • Limited variety without seeking out related expansions or sequels.

Who it's for

Ideal for two players (9+) who enjoy tight logic-driven deduction duels with quick playtimes.
