About the game

Elfenland sends fledgling elves racing to visit as many of twenty Elfencities as possible across four rounds, using transport like giant pigs, unicorns, magic clouds, and dragons. Each round, players draft transport tiles and cards, then plot routes that outmaneuver rivals who might block a path with a slower mode of travel. A secret home city adds a scoring wrinkle at game's end. This redesign of Elfenroads is a beloved, accessible route-building classic.

Hobbli's Notes

A gateway-game classic for good reason: the transport-tile drafting is simple to teach but full of clever spatial puzzles, and it holds up remarkably well decades after its Spiel des Jahres win. A great choice for introducing new players to route-building Euros.

What we like

  • Award-winning, easy-to-teach route-building design.
  • Varied transport types keep every game feeling different.
  • Good mix of planning and light player interaction.
  • Excellent gateway game for newer board gamers.

Keep in mind

  • Can suffer some analysis paralysis at higher player counts.
  • Tile draws introduce a fair amount of luck.
  • Older editions have somewhat dated production.

Who it's for

Families and gateway gamers, ages 10+, best with 4-6 players for a lively, accessible session.
