About the game

Courtisans puts players in the middle of a royal banquet where courtly families vie for influence and favor. Each turn you play three cards: one at the Queen's table to sway a family's standing, and two more placed in your own or a rival's domain to bank points tied to that family's final status. Balancing helpful and harmful plays across your own and opponents' domains creates constant tension and backstabbing. It's a light, fast-playing card game of positioning and influence for 2-5 players.

Hobbli's Notes

Courtisans packs a surprising amount of tension into a quick 30-minute card game: every card placement is a small gamble on whose favor will rise or fall by game's end. The mix of self-interest and direct interference with opponents' domains keeps the take-that energy high. It's a fun, snappy filler for groups who enjoy a bit of friendly backstabbing.

What we like

  • Fast setup and short playtime make it easy to fit in anywhere.
  • Clever card-placement puzzle mixing self and opponent domains.
  • Light rules make it accessible to casual and younger players.
  • Encourages playful, backstabbing interaction between players.

Keep in mind

  • Direct interference mechanics may not suit players who dislike take-that.
  • Limited strategic depth for experienced gamers.
  • Newer title with a less established track record.
