About the game
Mycelia follows the fungal life cycle - growing, sporing, and decaying mushrooms - as players compete for space and resources on an ever-expanding triangular tile board. Each turn offers two actions from six options, letting you steal spores, block rivals' networks, or trigger decay effects for special bonuses, and you can play aggressively to disrupt opponents or defensively to protect your own territory. The board grows organically as new environment tiles are added, and richly illustrated mushroom art grounds the abstract competition in real botanical detail. It supports 1-4 players, including a dedicated solo mode.
Hobbli's Notes
Mycelia's growing triangular board and mushroom theme make for a genuinely fresh-feeling tile-placement game. We enjoyed the push-pull between aggressive spore-stealing and defensive network-building. It's a newer title so we're still gathering long-term impressions, but early signs are promising for strategy-minded tables.
What we like
- Growing, modular triangular board keeps every game visually and tactically fresh.
- Offers both aggressive and defensive playstyles for varied strategies.
- Includes a genuine solo mode alongside multiplayer.
- Attractive botanical illustrations reinforce the mushroom theme.
Keep in mind
- Moderate-to-heavy complexity may be a stretch for casual players.
- 90-minute playtime with area-denial elements can create tension some groups dislike.
- Niche environmental theme won't appeal to everyone.
Who it's for
Suited to strategy gamers who enjoy tile-placement and area-control games with an area-denial edge; the solo mode also appeals to solitaire players.
