About the game
Sail is a cooperative trick-taking game for two players who must navigate a pirate ship through dangerous waters while avoiding damage from a lurking Kraken. Before each round, players exchange cards, then play a series of tricks whose winners trigger different ship actions in combination with unique character skills. The catch is that once cards are dealt, players cannot speak to coordinate strategy or share information until the round ends. Winning together means reaching the final token before the Kraken catches your ship or its deck runs out.
Hobbli's Notes
A clever, tense twist on trick-taking that forces real cooperative deduction instead of table talk. The communication limit creates a lovely puzzle of reading your partner's intentions through card play alone. At just twenty minutes, it's an easy pick for a quick two-player session with real stakes.
What we like
- Fresh cooperative spin on trick-taking mechanics.
- Communication limits build genuine tension and deduction.
- Quick playtime around twenty minutes.
- Character skills add tactical variety.
Keep in mind
- Strictly two players, limiting group use.
- The no-talking restriction may frustrate some players.
- Small card pool means limited long-term variety.
