About the game

Robotrick is a compact trick-taking card game for three players joined by a fourth, automated 'Robo' player who follows a simple programmed logic. Suits run 1 to 13 in four colors, and players must follow the must-follow trump suit each trick. Winning too many tricks is dangerous: collect four or more out of twelve and you lose points instead of gaining them. It's a quick, clever twist on trick-taking that adds unpredictability through its robotic fourth seat.

Hobbli's Notes

The addition of a scripted robot player is a neat solution to trick-taking's usual three-or-four-player rigidity, letting three humans enjoy four-handed dynamics. The 'win too much and you lose' scoring twist keeps everyone second-guessing how hard to push. It's a small, portable game that should appeal to trick-taking fans looking for something a bit different. Information here is limited, so some details of Robo's exact programming are best learned from the rulebook.

What we like

  • Clever robot player lets three people enjoy trick-taking dynamics.
  • Quick 30-minute playtime suits casual sessions.
  • Push-your-luck scoring twist on trick count adds tension.
  • Portable card-only format is easy to bring along.

Keep in mind

  • Very niche availability outside Japan makes it hard to source.
  • Fixed three-human-player format limits flexibility.
  • Robot's programmed behavior may feel arbitrary until learned.

Who it's for

Good for trick-taking fans who enjoy small-box card games, especially groups of exactly three players looking for four-player dynamics.
