About the game
Applejack is a quick, elegant tile-laying game from Uwe Rosenberg set in a sunlit apple orchard. On each turn you draft a tile bearing apples, blossoms, and beehives from a shared harvest board and add it to your growing orchard grid. Careful placement lets you trigger honey collection and score bonus points when the die reveals a matching apple type. After nineteen turns your orchard is complete, and the grower with the richest harvest of apples, blossoms, and honey wins.
Hobbli's Notes
This is Rosenberg in miniature: the same tile-laying puzzle logic of his bigger games distilled into a tidy hour-long box. We love how the beehive placement rule quietly forces you to think two moves ahead. It won't blow anyone's mind, but as a low-stress solo or two-player filler it's dependable and satisfying.
What we like
- Satisfying tile-laying puzzle logic from a proven designer.
- Works very well as a solo game as well as multiplayer.
- Quick to teach and finishes within about an hour.
- Rewards careful spatial planning around beehive placement.
Keep in mind
- Limited direct player interaction beyond tile drafting.
- The farming theme is mostly cosmetic and abstract.
- Tile availability luck can constrain your planned layout.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual puzzle fans aged 8 and up, and it plays just as well solo as with a full table of four.
