About the game
Andromeda's Edge sends players to a dazzling, uncharted region on the edge of the Andromeda Galaxy, littered with precursor debris and patrolled by extragalactic raiders. Leading a desperate faction seeking to build a new civilization, players launch starships to gather resources, claim moons, acquire station modules, and populate planets, all while battling opponents in dice-based conflicts. Progress along five tracks, Science, Industry, Commerce, Civilization, and Supremacy, determines rewards at mid-game events and at the conclusion. Each faction offers a distinct playstyle, layering asymmetric powers over an engine-building core of ship launches and station development.
Hobbli's Notes
Andromeda's Edge combines area-control conflict with satisfying engine-building through station modules, giving it a nice balance between direct confrontation and long-term development. The asymmetric factions and dice-based battles add real strategic texture, though as a newer release its long-term staying power and balance are still being tested by the community. It's a promising pick for fans of sci-fi area-control games looking for something fresh.
What we like
- Asymmetric factions give each player a distinct strategic identity.
- The station-module engine-building adds satisfying long-term development.
- Dice-based conflict allows strategic manipulation to turn losses into gains.
- The sci-fi exploration theme is richly represented in the components.
Keep in mind
- Playtime runs long at up to 160 minutes.
- The rules overhead is substantial for newcomers.
- Modular components require significant table space.
- As a newer release, faction balance is still being assessed by players.
Who it's for
