About the game
Voyages is a roll-and-write game of open-sea exploration where each player captains their own vessel using nothing but a printed sheet and a pencil. Each round, three shared dice are rolled for direction, distance, and crew duties, and every player chooses how to apply them to their own sheet simultaneously. Points come from visiting islands, trading goods, and training sailors against the looming threat of the mysterious Dread. Remarkably, it's designed to scale from a single solo player all the way up to over a hundred players at once.
Hobbli's Notes
Voyages is a clever, minimalist roll-and-write that punches well above its tiny footprint. The shared-dice, simultaneous-play structure means huge groups can play together with almost no overhead, which is a neat trick for the genre. It's equally satisfying solo, making it a genuinely flexible travel companion. A great pick when you want a quick nautical puzzle without lugging around a big box.
What we like
- Massively scalable from solo play to 100+ players at once.
- Simple roll-and-write format needs only paper and dice.
- Quick 30-minute sessions fit into any schedule.
- Ongoing free expansion content adds long-term variety.
Keep in mind
- Paper-and-pencil format lacks a tactile board game feel.
- Luck of the dice rolls can outweigh careful planning.
- Limited direct interaction between players.
Who it's for
