About the game

That Time You Killed Me is a two-player abstract game about rival time travelers trying to erase each other from history across three connected 4x4 boards representing past, present, and future. Each turn you move a copy of yourself and can travel through time, leaving duplicates behind as the timeline gets messier. Murdering an opponent's copy means pushing them off the board, and you win by cornering all their remaining selves onto a single board. Four escalating chapters unlock new rules and components as the campaign progresses.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli is impressed by how cleverly this abstract game turns a time-travel gimmick into a genuinely tight, puzzle-like duel. The escalating chapter structure keeps a two-player relationship fresh over many plays rather than going stale. Its short 30-minute length makes it easy to fit in multiple rounds back-to-back. Being strictly two-player limits its use to head-to-head match-ups only.

What we like

  • Clever time-travel puzzle mechanic spread across three boards.
  • Quick 30-minute playtime fits easily into an evening.
  • Escalating campaign of chapters adds long-term depth.
  • Low downtime keeps both players constantly engaged (downtime grade B).

Keep in mind

  • Strictly two-player only limits group use.
  • Abstract mechanics may feel dry despite the narrative dressing.
  • Fixed order of unlocking content limits flexibility in replay order.

Who it's for

Perfect for two players aged 10+ who enjoy sharp abstract strategy duels with a clever twist.
