About the game
1923 Cotton Club places players in charge of a Prohibition-era Harlem nightclub, inspired by the real history of Owney Madden's famous jazz venue. Over a maximum of six rounds, you'll use three pawns to make club improvements, take out loans, get tip-offs, partner with gangsters, smuggle alcohol, and hire artists to attract the era's biggest celebrities. Worker placement and card-drafting decisions intertwine as you build your club's reputation against rival owners. The player with the most reputation at the end wins the era's spotlight.
Hobbli's Notes
The Prohibition jazz-club theme is dripping with atmosphere, and the worker-placement puzzle of balancing legitimate improvements against criminal shortcuts gives real strategic texture. A nice mid-weight pick for groups who enjoy thematic economic games.
