Age of Galaxy is a pocket-sized 4X game that packs galactic exploration, colonization, and civilization-building into a compact box. Each player commands an interstellar alliance of three unique factions, drafting actions to explore star systems, research technology, and build fleets. Worker placement and action-point mechanisms drive an engine-building race toward dominance of the Silver Crescent. Hobbli's team is intrigued by how much 4X flavor Age of Galaxy squeezes into a one-hour playtime: exploring, expanding, and teching up all feel present without the usual multi-hour commitment. The three-faction alliance structure gives each player several small engines to juggle at once, which adds nice texture. It's still a fairly crunchy design, so it plays best with players who already enjoy strategy games. As a newer, less established title, some may want to try it before committing to a purchase.
