About the game
Hansa sends 2-4 players sailing the Hanseatic trade routes of Scandinavia, buying and selling goods, founding trading posts, and expanding market presence along a simple arrow-based map. Whoever controls the ship each turn decides whether to trade, sell, or expand, making timing and route control central to strategy. Building sets of goods for victory points is balanced against the need to keep revenue flowing. It's a lean, elegant economic euro from designer Michael Schacht.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli enjoys how much strategic tension Hansa squeezes out of such a simple map and rule set. Every decision about where to send the ship ripples through the rest of the round, making it a tidy tactical puzzle. It plays especially well as a tight two-player duel. The abstract map may leave some players wanting more thematic flavor, and comparisons to other Schacht trading games should be taken as a general guide rather than certainty.
What we like
- Elegant, streamlined ruleset hides genuine strategic depth.
- Plays especially well as a two-player game.
- Low downtime keeps turns brisk (downtime grade B).
- Set-collection goals create satisfying long-term planning.
Keep in mind
