About the game

Aqua Garden puts players in charge of a fledgling aquarium, competing to stock six tanks with sea life using limited funds and a single dedicated employee. On your turn, the player farthest back on the board's perimeter moves to an empty space, either collecting advertising funds based on current tank contents or gathering sea creatures to place in oxygen-limited tanks. Set collection and turn-order manipulation drive careful planning, since each tank can only hold so much oxygen and creatures like sharks must be kept separate. Designed by Totsuca Chuo, it's a light-to-mid-weight strategy game for 1-4 players about building the town's best aquarium.

Hobbli's Notes

Aqua Garden's charming aquarium theme is matched by a clever turn-order mechanism: always moving the player who's fallen furthest behind keeps the pace fair and engaging. The oxygen-management puzzle for stocking tanks adds a satisfying layer of constraint to what could otherwise be a simple collection game.

What we like

  • Charming aquarium theme appeals to a wide audience.
  • Perimeter-based turn order keeps trailing players competitive.
  • Oxygen-limited tanks add a satisfying constraint-based puzzle.
  • Works well solo as well as with up to four players.

Keep in mind

  • Suggested age of 15 seems high relative to its light-to-mid complexity.
  • Limited direct player interaction beyond shared advertising spaces.
  • Sea-life collection theme is common among similar euro games.

Who it's for

Good for families and casual strategy gamers ages 15+ who enjoy set collection and light optimization puzzles; plays solo through four players.
