About the game

Votes for Women is a card-driven game covering the American women's suffrage movement from 1848 to 1920, culminating in the fight to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment. Playable competitively, cooperatively, or solo against the automated 'Oppobot,' the Suffragist player must pass the Amendment through Congress and secure ratification from three-fourths of the states, while the Opposition tries to block or defeat it. Over six turns, players bid on strategy cards and play cards for events, campaigning, organizing, and lobbying. It's a tightly designed historical simulation with meaningful decisions at every turn.

Hobbli's Notes

A thoughtful, well-researched entry in the card-driven genre that tackles a historical topic rarely covered in board games. The solo Oppobot system is a strong addition for players who want to explore the theme alone, and the bidding-for-strategy-cards layer adds a nice tactical wrinkle on top of the classic CDG formula.

What we like

  • Unique, well-researched historical theme.
  • Flexible solo, cooperative, and competitive modes.
  • Card-driven system rewards careful long-term planning.
  • Automated Oppobot opponent adds strong solo replayability.

Keep in mind

  • Niche political theme may not appeal to all groups.
  • Moderate-to-high complexity requires focused attention.
