About the game
Hues and Cues is a colorful party game where three to ten players try to get others to guess a specific shade from 480 colors on the game board using just one or two-word clues. A cue giver picks a hidden color and gives evocative hints, like 'coffee' or 'au lait', while everyone else places a marker on the color they think is being described. The closer your guess lands to the target hue, the more points you score, and since everyone perceives color differently, the clues rarely land the same way twice. Games run about 30 minutes and are easy to pick up for players of almost any age.
Hobbli's Notes
This is a delightfully simple concept executed really well: the sheer number of colors on the board means there's always a fun debate about what counts as 'olive' versus 'moss.' It plays great with big groups since everyone guesses simultaneously each round, keeping downtime low. The one-to-two-word clue limit forces some real creativity and leads to a lot of laughs when guesses go wildly astray. It's an easy recommendation for casual, family-friendly game nights.
What we like
- Simple one- or two-word clue system anyone can pick up instantly.
- Huge 480-color board creates endless variety.

- Quick 30-minute playtime keeps energy high.
Keep in mind
- Subjective color perception can lead to frustrating near-misses.
- Limited strategic depth beyond wordplay.
- Less engaging for players who prefer competitive strategy games.
