About the game
Mini Express is a lean train and stock-trading game where players expand one of four railroad companies' networks or buy into their success by acquiring stock. Laying track extends a company toward new cities and grants goods influence, while buying stock costs influence equal to that company's reservoir size. The game ends once two companies are fully claimed or run out of track, and final scoring rewards players with the strongest relative influence in each goods type. It's a spiritual sequel to Mini Rails, playable solo or with up to five players in about 45 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
Mini Express distills train-game stock speculation into a tighter, more approachable package than its heavier cousins. We appreciate the clean choice between track-laying and stock-buying each turn. It's a solid pick for train-game fans wanting something shorter, though it may feel abstract to players wanting a richer theme.
What we like
- Streamlined stock-and-network mechanics make for a shorter, more focused train game.
- Offers meaningful choice between track-laying and stock acquisition each turn.
- Includes a solo mode alongside support for up to 5 players.
- Compact 45-minute playtime compared to heavier train games.
Keep in mind
- Abstract presentation may feel less thematic than other train games.
- Moderate complexity requires some upfront rules explanation.
- Niche train/stock genre has limited mainstream appeal.
Who it's for
Appeals to fans of economic and train games looking for a shorter, more abstract stock-and-network experience; a solo mode is included for single-player fans.
