About the game

Chronicles of Crime: 1400 casts you as Abelard Lavel, a knight in medieval Paris gifted with prophetic dreams of past and future crimes. Using a companion app, you scan evidence, question witnesses, and interpret mysterious vision cards to piece together whodunit across an immersive murder-mystery campaign. Family members like your monk uncle and merchant sister lend their expertise, while your loyal dog can track down suspects from a single item. Part of the larger Chronicles of Crime Millennium Series, it's a standalone entry with its own connected medieval mysteries to solve.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team enjoys how the app-driven investigation makes every case feel like a living scene rather than a static board. The vision cards add a clever twist that separates this entry from the earlier Chronicles of Crime games. The dependency on a phone or tablet app is a real consideration for groups that prefer fully analog play. Once cases are solved they can't be replayed fresh, but the number of included scenarios gives plenty of mileage before that becomes an issue.

What we like

  • Unique app-integrated investigation creates an immersive crime-solving experience.
  • Strong medieval mystery narrative with well-realized supporting characters.
  • Works well both cooperatively and as a solo experience.
  • Vision cards add a fresh deduction twist over earlier entries in the series.

Keep in mind

  • Requires a companion app and device to play at all.
  • Solved cases lose their replay value once completed.
  • Long-term support depends on continued app availability.

Who it's for

Great for teens and adults (12+) who enjoy cooperative deduction and storytelling, playable solo or in small groups.
