About the game

Paper Dungeons is a roll-and-write that recreates the feel of a dungeon crawler on paper. Controlling a party of warrior, wizard, cleric, and rogue, players select three of six rolled dice each round to level up characters, brew potions, forge magic items, and explore the dungeon. Nine rounds build toward tougher challenges, including three big monsters worth fighting for glory. It's a light, quick-playing take on dungeon delving that scales up to a party of eight.

Hobbli's Notes

A charming, pencil-and-paper spin on the dungeon crawl genre: quick to teach, quick to play, and surprisingly thematic for a roll-and-write. Best treated as a light filler rather than a deep strategic experience.

What we like

  • Quick setup and fast 30-minute playtime.
  • Scales smoothly from solo play up to 8 players.
  • Dice drafting creates meaningful weekly decisions each round.
  • Thematic dungeon-crawl feel packed into a compact format.

Keep in mind

  • Requires paper sheets each session, adding ongoing cost.
  • Limited long-term strategic depth compared to full dungeon crawlers.
  • Dice luck plays a large role in outcomes.

Who it's for

Fans of roll-and-write games and light fantasy themes, ages 8+, works well solo or with large groups up to 8.
