About the game
On the Underground has players building competing subway lines across London or Berlin, controlling 2-4 lines depending on player count. Each turn, you build track or add branches to connect stations, landmarks, and stops, while a shared passenger token travels your network to score points. Points come from both network construction and successful passenger journeys. This edition packs both London and Berlin maps, plus a solo mode, into one box.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team appreciates this reimplementation for offering two great city maps and refined rules over the original. The balance between building your own lines and benefiting from the shared passenger's movement creates constant tactical tension. It's a great gateway into network-building train games without the heavier baggage of full 18xx titles.
What we like
- Two full city maps (London and Berlin) add great variety.
- Shared passenger mechanic rewards clever network planning.
- Accessible rules make it a good entry into route-building games.
- Built-in solo mode extends its replay value.
Keep in mind
- Turn order can create a slight first/last player imbalance.
- Route-building puzzle may feel dry for theme-focused players.
- Some analysis paralysis possible when planning branches.
Who it's for
Suited to ages 14+ Euro gamers and train-game fans playing solo or in groups of 2-5.
