About the game
SHOBU is a striking two-player abstract strategy game played across four wooden boards with river stones split between light and dark sides. Each turn combines a gentle passive move with a mirrored aggressive move on a different board, letting players push opposing stones off the edge. The goal is to clear all four stones from any single board to win. Its elegant, tactile design evokes the feel of Go or Chess while offering a wholly original challenge.
Hobbli's Notes
SHOBU is a beautifully crafted abstract game that Hobbli's team admires for its tactile, minimalist elegance and surprising depth from simple rules. The dual-board, mirrored-move mechanic is genuinely novel and rewards spatial and strategic thinking. It's a quick game to teach but takes real practice to master. A great choice for two players who enjoy pure-strategy games without any luck.
What we like

- Beautiful tactile components.
- Quick to teach, deep to master.
- Pure skill-based play with no luck.
Keep in mind

- Abstract theme won't appeal to narrative-focused players.
Who it's for
Great for two players (8+) who enjoy pure abstract strategy, spatial reasoning, and elegant no-luck games.
