About the game

Star Wars: Outer Rim lets one to four players become smugglers, bounty hunters, or mercenaries carving out a reputation across the galaxy's fringe. Traveling in your own personal ship, you'll hire iconic Star Wars characters, complete jobs, chase bounties, and upgrade your ship, all in a race to be the first to reach ten fame. With a modular board, variable character goals, and a good solo mode, it offers an open-ended sandbox adventure rather than a tightly scripted mission. Its blend of exploration, dice-based encounters, and light role-playing makes it an inviting Star Wars-themed adventure game.

Hobbli's Notes

Outer Rim captures the scoundrel fantasy of the Star Wars universe better than most licensed games, giving players real freedom in how they pursue fame: whether through bounty hunting, trading, or personal character goals. The modular map and variable starting characters give it solid replayability, and the solo mode is a nice bonus for Star Wars fans without a group. At three hours, it's a bigger time commitment than most family games, and pacing can feel slow early on.

What we like

  • Strong Star Wars theme with iconic characters to recruit.
  • Open sandbox design lets players choose their own path to victory.
  • Includes a well-regarded solo mode.

  • Multiple viable strategies, from bounty hunting to trading to combat.

Keep in mind

  • Three-hour playtime is a significant commitment.
  • Early game can feel slow while building up resources.
