About the game

A two-player asymmetrical card game that pits a prosecution attorney against a defense attorney in a courtroom battle. Each unique case, from murder to racketeering, has its own mechanisms and story, played out across Discovery (drafting evidence), witness questioning (chaining cards to build arguments), and jury-swaying phases. Players spend earned influence to sway the jury's biases toward their side of the argument. It's a tense tug-of-war of drafting and pattern-building wrapped in a courtroom drama theme.

Hobbli's Notes

Lawyer Up stands out with its genuinely asymmetrical two-player structure and courtroom theme, which is a rare setting for board games. The drafting-then-arguing structure gives real narrative shape to each match. At 75 minutes and moderate complexity, it's meaty enough for a proper two-player strategy session. Different cases keep the experience fresh across replays.

What we like

  • Genuinely asymmetrical two-player design.
  • Unique courtroom-drama theme rarely seen in board games.
  • Multiple distinct cases add variety and replayability.
  • Combines drafting, pattern-building, and tug-of-war tension.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly two-player, so it can't be played with larger groups.
  • Asymmetry means players must learn two different rule sets.
  • Niche legal theme may not appeal to all players.

Who it's for

Great for two players aged 13+ who enjoy asymmetrical strategy games, drafting, and courtroom or legal drama themes.
