About the game
Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid is a cooperative game for 2-5 players where each person controls a Ranger with a unique combat deck, working together to defend Angel Grove's combat zones from Rita Repulsa's monsters and minions. Each round, enemies deploy to threatened zones and Rangers must coordinate movement, attacks, and rest to keep their combat decks from running dry. As the game progresses, Rangers unlock Zord cards and can eventually combine into the mighty Megazord for a climactic boost. The game builds to a confrontation with a powerful Master enemy, testing whether the team's strategy and card management hold up under pressure. It's a faithful, mechanically satisfying translation of the show's team-based, escalating-threat action.
Hobbli's Notes
This does a great job of capturing Power Rangers' team-up energy through genuinely interesting deck-as-health-and-resource design; every card played chips away at your Ranger's stamina, so resting becomes a real strategic choice. The variable Ranger powers give the team a lot of personality. Downtime can creep up in larger groups since combat resolution involves everyone's cards, but for licensed-game standards, this punches well above its weight.
What we like
- Strong thematic translation of the Power Rangers show into board game mechanics.
- Unique combat-deck-as-health system creates meaningful resource decisions.
- Variable Ranger powers give every character a distinct playstyle.
- Escalating Zord and Megazord mechanics deliver a satisfying climax.
Keep in mind
- Downtime can be noticeable in larger player counts.
- Rules overhead is heavier than the license might suggest.
- Requires the whole team to coordinate closely, which can slow new groups down.
