About the game

Village Pillage is a fast, simultaneous-action card game where players defend their own borders while raiding their neighbors. Each round, everyone secretly picks two cards from a hand of Farmers, Walls, Raiders, and Merchants, playing one against each neighbor before all cards are revealed and resolved in a fixed order. Farmers gather turnips, Walls block incoming Raiders, Raiders steal turnips, and Merchants let you draw cards or buy relics. The first player to collect three turnip relics wins the game. With everything happening simultaneously, there's no downtime and constant back-and-forth tension between neighbors.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team likes how Village Pillage packs a full 'take that' experience into a light, twenty-minute package -- everyone acts at once, so there's no waiting around for your turn to matter. The rock-paper-scissors-style interaction between Farmers, Walls, and Raiders is simple but creates real tension every round. It's light on long-term strategy, leaning more toward reading your neighbors and reacting quickly. A great filler for groups who enjoy some friendly aggression without a long commitment.

What we like

  • Simultaneous play means no downtime between turns.
  • Simple rock-paper-scissors-style card interactions are easy to grasp.
  • Fast twenty-minute playtime makes it a great filler or opener.
  • Playful farming theme keeps the take-that conflict light-hearted.

Keep in mind

  • Limited long-term strategy compared to more traditional hand-management games.
  • Outcomes can feel swingy since neighbor choices are made blind.
  • Best suited to lighter game nights rather than serious strategy sessions.
